In July 2025, twelve political scientists from higher education institutions across the United States convened online to share strategies and resources for teaching introductory American government and politics courses in response to the current political climate.
The following resource collection contributes to a growing conversation between political science instructors investigating how to meet the challenge of teaching American government and politics in today's moment. Organized via three approaches, the twenty-plus original resources feature innovative assignments, activities, and experiential learning opportunities to help students ask and answer big questions about America's evolving political system and sharpen their own views of and agency in American national politics. Each teaching resource identifies political science learning objectives outlined in the APSA Presidential Task Force Report, Rethinking Political Science Education.
APSA thanks the symposium co-facilitators and participants for their contributions.
