In this assignment, students will read the Texas State Constitution’s Bill of Rights and come up with one proposed change that they’d like to make. To support that proposal, they have to provide two news articles showing how the proposal would benefit Texans. This helps students understand at least some of what’s already in the state constitution’s Bill of Rights, and it helps get them thinking critically about how it can be adapted to best serve the changing needs of the state’s population.
This can be given to students as a brief writing assignment outside of class. It also works well as an assignment in a completely online class. It’s best if it’s assigned after a review of a state constitution chapter.
The Word document contains the entire assignment to give to students. Word’s accessibility checker doesn’t show any issues, so it should be accessible for all of your students.
